TTCA Accredited Breeders - Requirements


Every breeder whose name appears on the list distributed either orally or in writing, agrees to these terms by signing the agreement. In addition to adhering to the Tibetan Terrier Club of America, Inc. Guidelines for Responsible Breeders, each breeder listed agrees and commits themselves to the following.

  1. Breeder will provide a written sales contract containing a statement as to the health of the puppy. The health of the puppy shall be guaranteed for a minimum of 72 hours and made with the understanding that the purchaser’s veterinarian shall check the puppy within 72 hours and if the puppy is unfit for sale, the puppy may be returned for replacement or full refund. Additionally, the written contract should specify how the breeder would honor a refund or replacement that may be necessary due to unforeseen circumstances
  2. No dog or bitch will be bred before the age of two. 
    • CAER/CERF examinations recorded in the OFA database as normal (or normal with breeder option).  
    • Where frozen semen a sire of 10 years of age or older on 02/28/2023 is used
    • the sire must have had OFA fair or better hips (or PennHip with no degenerative joint disease noted, and a distraction index better than the 50th percentile recorded on the OFA database), and 
  3. Parents of all litters bred by members of the Breeder Referral List shall have a CHIC certification that includes
    • OFA hips recorded as at least fair or better or PennHip evaluation conducted at 12 months of age or older (minimum breeding age remains at 2 years of age), with no degenerative joint disease noted, and a distraction index better than the 50th percentile, and Patellar Luxation graded as normal, all of which are registered with the OFA.  BAER test to be recorded as normal.
    • Current annual CAER eye examinations to be recorded as normal or normal with breeder option.  
    • CHIC certification of the results from DNA tests for PLL, NCL, PRA3, rcd4 PRA, (or “clear by parentage” as per OFA and their results listed on OFA’s website.) No dogs will be bred together that could produce puppies that are “affected”/ “genotypically affected” for NCL, “affected/high risk” for PLL., PRA3, or rcd4 PRA 
    • Where frozen semen from a deceased sire is used:
      • the sire must have had OFA fair or better hips (or PennHip with no degenerative joint disease noted, and a distraction index better than the 50th percentile recorded on the OFA database), and 
      • CAER/CERF examinations recorded in the OFA database as normal (or normal with breeder option).  
      • Where DNA tests or Baer tests were available and required by TTCA Breeder Referral at the time of decease, results should be available.
    • Where frozen semen a sire of 10 years of age or older on 02/28/2023 is used:
      • the sire must have had OFA fair or better hips (or PennHip with no degenerative joint disease noted, and a distraction index better than the 50th percentile recorded on the OFA database), and
        • CAER/CERF examinations recorded in the OFA database as normal (or normal with breeder option).
  4. To maintain Accredited Breeder status a breeder must have bred at least one litter, compliant with Breeder Referral requirements current at the time of whelping, in the last five years. Any litters produced from March 1, 2023, must also be in full compliance with the requirements listed above in point 3.
